Accutane
Accutane, also known as isotretinoin, is an oral medication that treats cystic acne, a severe form of acne. Accutane was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1982. Accutane treats acne by shrinking the oil glands within the skin. The medication, however, might cause some serious side effects like depression. The FDA requires the package label to notify users about side effects like depression, psychiatric disorders, and suicidal thoughts. The FDA has received more than 83 reports of suicides and 1,373 cases of psychiatric problems among users since June 2001.
